Blue Mountains, 2009 Lead Artist: Client: Color plexiglas panels mounted on glass |
The sweeping green and blue shapes refer to the Blue Ridge Mountains that is near the city Roanoke and is an important landmark as a National Park and provides the city with a dramatic background landscape. These colorful window design for the connecting space brightens up the previously simple and mundane space. The public encounters these windows as they come up the escalator. The one of the rolling hills depict a silhouette of a woman referring to the Native American legend for the name of the Shenandoah Valley where Roanoke is located, "The Daughter of the Stars". The cut out shapes of the stars in the yellow morning sky refer to this legend. At night, viewed from outside, these windows transform this area into a bright jewel box that is visible from a distance. |
