These lyrical abstract lines are based on the historical hurricane map of North Carolina from the last 150 years. These hand cut glass mosaic tiles are fabricated by The Byzantine Mosaic lab in Mexico, and was be inlaid into the exiting lobby floor. The lobby space leads into the center's gallery space, large conference space Reynolds Place, and the Sawtooth Art School.
In conjunction with the Winston Salem project, Kyungmi Shin was the Artist in Residence for SECCA (South Eastern Contemporary Center for the Art) in Winston-Salem. In April 2010, she worked with Mt. Tabor and Reynolda High school art and science students to in a week-long arts workshop about public art process, each student team creating their own public art design. The workshop culminated in the site visit at the downtown arts center where the floor mosaic project installation was ongoing.
